CBI programmes often describe timelines of a few months, but the government cannot complete external due diligence, bank compliance or document verification on a fixed marketing schedule. A clean, well-documented case can move faster than a file with missing civil records, complex companies or unresolved background issues. A cash contribution avoids property conveyancing, valuation, construction contracts and resale structures. That can remove transaction steps after approval. It does not reduce the due-diligence standard, and the applicant still needs to prove the source and transfer path of the money.

Document quality and due diligence often determine the real timeline

Grenada describes a typical processing period of about three to six months. Nauru has publicly described about three to four months. Dominica has also published guidance referring to a process measured in months. These are indicative, not promises, and each programme can request more information. Even where citizenship approval is efficient, a property route may require a binding sale agreement, escrow, title work, project verification and post-approval completion. If speed is the priority, compare the full path from initial document collection to certificate and passport, not just the government's decision window.

Property can add a separate transaction timetable

Several CBI systems have introduced or strengthened interviews, biometrics and enhanced checks. These measures can add scheduling steps but are now part of mainstream programme integrity. Applicants should not choose a jurisdiction solely because an intermediary claims interviews can be bypassed.

Family complexity and enhanced checks can slow otherwise clean programmes

Apostilles, police certificates, birth and marriage records, company accounts, tax returns, bank statements and proof of address can take weeks to assemble. Starting with a document checklist often saves more time than trying to find a programme advertised as a few weeks faster. A large last-minute transfer with no documentary history can delay a file even if the applicant is otherwise eligible. Prepare the wealth narrative first: salary, dividends, business sale, property sale, inheritance, investment gains or another lawful source, backed by records that connect the source to the investment account.

Speed claims usually describe a clean file under ordinary conditions. A complicated company sale, multiple residences, a politically exposed family member or an old criminal or immigration issue can create extra verification even in a programme marketed as fast. The applicant’s evidentiary profile is often the largest variable in the timeline.

Choose a programme you can complete cleanly, not one with the shortest advertisement

A difference of one or two advertised months is small compared with citizenship's long-term legal consequences. Compare programme stability, family coverage, cost, travel needs and investment structure first. Then use the credible current processing range as a tie-breaker rather than the main reason to choose a programme. Track speed as stages rather than one advertised number: document collection, agent review, government submission, due diligence, interview if required, approval in principle, investment completion and passport issuance. A programme with a short government target can still be slower overall if the applicant's documents or banking take longer. Use the latest official processing guidance only as an estimate and record the date it was published or checked. No programme can guarantee how quickly an individual background investigation will finish, so 'fastest' should describe the current process, not promise a delivery date.
