Where you actually board
Charter boats marketed as “Nice” may depart from Port Lympia, nearby Villefranche-sur-Mer or another local marina. Confirm the exact port before arranging transfers. A ten-kilometer difference on land can matter on a busy summer morning.
Cap Ferrat and Villefranche
For a relaxed half day, the coastline around Villefranche and Cap Ferrat is difficult to beat. Distances are short, leaving more time for swimming and lunch. The captain will choose anchoring areas based on conditions and current local rules.
Monaco to the east
A full-day charter can easily include the run toward Monaco, with views of Èze and Cap-d’Ail along the way. Whether you enter Port Hercule depends on berth availability and the purpose of the trip. Seeing Monaco from the water is often enough for a day charter.
Antibes and Cannes to the west
Heading west opens Antibes, Cap d’Antibes and Cannes. The Îles de Lérins off Cannes are a popular swimming and lunch area. Combining Monaco and Cannes in the same day is possible on a fast yacht but can make the schedule feel more like transport than leisure.
Season and sea conditions
The Riviera is busiest in July and August, while May, June and September can offer warm weather with less pressure on marinas. Strong winds can still affect plans in any month. Shoulder season is not a guarantee of calm seas.
Choose one direction
For a first Nice charter, pick east toward Monaco or west toward Antibes and Cannes. Doing both usually makes the day too busy. The coastline is close enough that slower cruising and longer stops usually create a better day.
Airport timing makes Nice especially convenient
Nice Côte d’Azur Airport is close to the coast, which makes a same-day charter tempting. It can work, but avoid booking a yacht immediately after a flight with no margin for delay. For an afternoon charter, leave time to collect luggage, reach the marina and eat if necessary. If the yacht leaves from Villefranche or Beaulieu, not Nice itself, confirm the transfer. On departure day, the same rule applies in reverse: do not plan to step off a yacht and race straight to airport security. A final lunch at anchor can easily run late if the sea is rough or the marina is busy. Nice is convenient precisely because there is no need to compress everything into an impossible schedule.
Villefranche can be a useful alternative
Villefranche-sur-Mer sits just east of Nice and offers quick access to a deep natural bay and Cap Ferrat. Some operators use it as a practical embarkation point even when marketing the charter to Nice visitors. That can reduce the amount of harbor maneuvering before the first swim stop. If your hotel is in central Nice, the road transfer is still short under normal conditions. Ask where the yacht is physically moored before assuming Port Lympia is always the best departure.
