Do not let Tesla route planning hide ordinary travel checks
The built-in system is excellent at finding Superchargers and preparing the battery, but it does not remove the need to verify hotel parking, ferry rules, cross-border permission or low-emission registration. A rental Tesla is still a rental car subject to the contract. Save a second charging map as backup because non-Tesla CCS sites can be useful when the recommended Supercharger is busy or off the preferred route. The strongest setup uses Tesla’s integration for convenience while keeping normal road-trip resilience.
A short practice charge is worth doing early
Even though Tesla Supercharging is highly integrated, a first-time renter benefits from one early charging stop before the battery becomes low. This confirms that the car authenticates correctly, shows how the cable releases and reveals how the rental company bills the session. It also gives the driver a chance to see how route preconditioning and arrival estimates work in real use. If the company has not granted app access, the early stop confirms that the key card and in-car controls are sufficient. Discovering a billing or access issue while the battery is at 60 percent is far easier than discovering it at 8 percent late at night.
