Long-term residents should budget for prices and rents that can change faster than in some home countries. Understand how a lease handles increases, deposits and payment currency, and keep emergency savings outside the monthly budget. A cost-of-living figure from last year may already be misleading. Evaluate affordability with a cushion rather than designing the move around the cheapest current supermarket or apartment examples. Keep an emergency reserve in a form you can access independently of one local bank or payment system, especially during the first months when accounts and recurring bills are still being established.
