Vieux Port and Port Canto
The festival uses both Vieux Port, beside central Cannes, and Port Canto farther along the Croisette. Different categories of boats may be concentrated in different areas. Check the current official map before deciding where to start.
What visitors can see
The show typically includes hundreds of boats ranging from small craft to large yachts, with many vessels displayed in the water. Builders use Cannes for launches and sea trials. Boarding access depends on the exhibitor and may require an appointment.
Allow enough time
A full day is the minimum for a useful overview. Two days is better if you are comparing yachts seriously or have meetings. Moving between ports and waiting to board boats takes longer than looking at a floor plan suggests.
Where to stay
Central Cannes is convenient but expensive during major events. Antibes, Juan-les-Pins and other nearby towns can be alternatives, though trains and roads become busy. Staying within walking distance has real value if you have early appointments.
September weather
The Riviera is often warm in September, but the show is largely outdoors and weather can still change. Bring sun protection and a light layer, and wear shoes suitable for docks and boarding boats.
Make it part of a yachting trip
Cannes is a natural place to add a charter day around the Îles de Lérins or Cap d’Antibes. Schedule that separately from the show. A day on the water gives useful context for the boats you have spent hours inspecting at the dock.
Use the official sector map before you arrive
Cannes is easier when you know which categories are concentrated in each port. If your interest is sailing yachts or multihulls, starting in the wrong area can waste a large part of the morning. Download or save the current official map and mark five or six priority exhibitors. Leave room for discoveries, but do not try to walk every aisle in order. Boat shows are tiring because boarding, removing shoes, waiting for appointments and moving along docks all take time. A long lunch can also consume the best part of the day. Serious buyers often benefit from an early start, a short midday break and a second focused session in the afternoon.
Who gets the most from Cannes
The festival works well for buyers comparing production yachts, sailors interested in new multihulls, charter clients curious about larger models, and enthusiasts who simply want to see a huge range of boats in one place. It is less useful if your only goal is boarding the biggest superyachts without appointments. In that case, expectations should be adjusted. Cannes is broad, not purely exclusive. That range is its strength: a visitor can move from practical cruising boats to luxury motor yachts and marine equipment in the same day.
Leave time for unexpected boats
Part of the value of Cannes is seeing models you did not know you were interested in. Keep some space between appointments so you can board something new, talk to a builder or watch a sea trial. A schedule packed to the minute defeats one of the best parts of a large boat show.
