Mahé has the main airport, Victoria and the largest concentration of services. Many charters begin here because the yacht can provision thoroughly before moving to smaller islands. The west and north coasts also offer bays worth using, so Mahé should not be treated only as an airport stop.
Praslin for the central cruising area
Praslin is large enough to support several days and close enough to nearby islands for short passages. Beaches and inland nature attractions make it easy to combine yacht time with shore excursions. It can also serve as a practical alternate embarkation area.
La Digue for a slower island day

The distant outer groups require a very different kind of yacht, more range and stronger expedition planning. Most first-time charterers should stay within the inner islands, where scenery is excellent and logistics are far simpler.
Conditions vary by trade-wind season
Wind direction changes through the year and affects which sides of the islands are most comfortable. The captain can use the archipelago’s geography to find shelter, but guests should still expect tropical weather and occasional movement at sea.

This can save several hours of sea time at the start or end of a charter. Ask where the vessel is physically located before deciding that every trip must begin in Victoria.
